A few years ago, I was trying to come up with a central focal point, or underlying, unifying principle for my music. I asked my wife, the Rev. Makeba D'Abreu, whose ministry includes consulting, with a specialty in organizational development issues such as visioning, strategic planning, etc., to take me on as a “project.” After several intense sessions, her last charge to me was to ask God to give me a vision, and, once I received it, to write it down. Well, several days passed, until one night I awoke suddenly in the middle of the night. There it was— an image of what this music was to be. It was so clear and powerful that I ran to get a pen and started writing. As I wrote, the words seemed to explode onto the page. It was so simple, yet so profound, I knew it had to be from God.
People always want to know the source of an artist’s inspiration or creativity. Well, now you know. May this bless and challenge you as much as it has blessed and challenged me.
